VACAVILLE, Solano County — October 25, 2026. The City of Vacaville reports securing $14,887,000 in federal funding for its planned Vaca Valley Parkway / Interstate 505 Multimodal Improvements Project. The municipal August 20 funding announcement says the money was formally obligated on July 27, 2026, following years of design, public engagement and coordination.

What the interchange project would change

The city’s project page outlines three main features: replacing three intersections along Vaca Valley Parkway with modern roundabouts, installing meters at the northbound and southbound I-505 entrance ramps, and constructing a separate pedestrian and bicycle connection across I-505. The city says the crossing would bridge an approximately 1,700-foot gap in the active transportation network.

The work area extends from west of East Monte Vista Avenue/Crocker Drive through the I-505 interchange. The city argues that the improvements should help reduce conflicts at intersections and improve access for people walking, biking or using mobility devices. These are projected benefits of planned work, not measured effects of a completed installation.

When does construction start?

The most detailed August 2026 city release says work is anticipated to begin in spring 2027 and last approximately 18 months. Some older planning materials refer to earlier possible start dates; those should not be treated as proof that construction began in 2026. The city’s present project FAQ also identifies spring 2027 as the expected start. Actual construction schedules and detours require later confirmation.

The city says access to homes and businesses should be maintained during construction, while more specific information about road restrictions and staging will be issued closer to the start of work.

Where the money comes from

Vacaville identifies two federal sources: the 2023 Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending award and the fiscal 2024 Safe Streets and Roads for All implementation grant. It states the overall project is fully funded through those grants combined with development impact fees. The federal award amount should not be confused with the total project budget or a check already paid to a contractor.

What the project does not include

The city’s FAQ says the existing vehicle bridge across I-505 will not be widened as part of this project. The planned bridge is a separate bicycle-pedestrian facility, not an additional traffic lane for cars. Residents evaluating anticipated traffic changes should keep that distinction in mind.

Public questions and project updates

The city lists public-works project contact Shawn Graf, reachable through shawn.graf@cityofvacaville.gov, and Public Works at 650 Merchant Street, Vacaville, CA 95688. The official project page links the notices and environmental-review materials.

Vacaville News will follow the project’s bidding, construction start, road restrictions and actual outcomes with source-linked reporting.
